I attended a recollection…

I attended a recollection. I was curious about the process because I’m developing a thesis on the subjects memory and diaspora. To recollect requires using memory, so, I decided to go.

The goddesses heard my prayers. The invitation was for us to remember… but, we have to remember lent… even then…

I felt I was at the right place at the right time… serendipity…

I even went as far as going to confession… I don’t even remember when I last confessed to a priest… and, yes, I forgot to recite the Act of Contrition…

I left the place feeling light…

Fritz in Iloilo

I enjoyed the company of my good friend Fritz last night… We just walked and talked and walked and talked…

It feels good to be in the company of somebody who can listen…

He’s leaving for Manila today… I’m going to miss him, but…

I’m going to enjoy the gift of solitude again…

Women’s Rights

Filed under: Uncategorized — sunflowerfairy at 8:28 pm on Monday, March 19, 2007

I’m scheduled to give a talk on women’s rights tomorrow afternoon at West Visayas State University. I’m excited about it because I’ve added my own reflection about what I think are women’s rights beyond the civil and political rights stipulated in the CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) among other International instrumentalities.

Women’s rights for me include: the right to dream… to right to love… the right to peace of mind… the right to a ‘radical sabbatical’… the right to care for herself… to grow old gracefully…

I’m exploring the free spirit in every woman by suggesting that these are rights, too …

Still, I want my presentation to be open ended… I asked my audience to reflect on the question: What is my right as a woman???

I celebrated women’s day with friends…

I make it a habit to celebrate women’s day every. In the morning, I treated my self to a warm, salt bath. My greeting to sister-friends: Today I celebrate woman! some variations were: Lets celebrate woman everyday! I celebrate the "blameless vulva".

I reviewed my thesis proposal and congratulated myself for the significant progress I made…

When evening came, I prepared for my dinner date with Stel, Tomas and Biboy. I consider them my soul companions in Iloilo. We had dinner at The Promenade. The place is just right for the occasion. We feel we always have the place to ourselves. Earlier, I bought dark chocolate for Stel.

Our conversation revolved around our pre-occupations for the time being. I talked about the progress of my thesis proposal. There’s promise that they would attend my graduation in Ateneo…

I enjoyed my flavored tea the most…

The pesto was not so good, but, the company was more important…

Its truly a happy women’s day!!!

Im writing my thesis…

I have started writing my thesis proposal… I’m exploring the subjects memory and diaspora… I would collect stories from Ilonggos who were in-transit to Mindanao… I refer to them as diasporic Ilonggos because they were only in passage to Mindanao, migrants for some time but have returned to their home province Iloilo at present.

I’m going to examine their memories of migration. What can they recall and remember… My research paper is a memoir…
